For many businesses leading up to Christmas, there are important payroll related tasks that need to happen, despite the slowdown in activities and more relaxed festive environment. If the only certainties in life are death and taxes then surely for the person running the company payroll the other certainty is that the period from December to February is going to be manic! So, for those of you that run the payroll for the business here is our top tips for getting through the year end period with maximum calm and ease….
- Download and Install the Payroll Year End updates for your software.
Thanks to the movement of the budget from December to October in the last 2 years, we have been able to bring you your year-end update to Micropay and Quickpay even earlier than ever before. This means that you can install your updates for the year end submissions and also changes to the calculation of PAYE and USC introduced in the budget for 2015 earlier than ever before. You will be prompted in your software to do this, it only takes a couple of minutes but we would encourage you to do this as soon as possible so that you can process your payroll with confidence that everything is in place to complete your year-end routine and process in 2015. We have also now included an Open website, on which you can find your payroll year end downloads. This site requires no log in for ease of access and a wide variety of support guides and extended opening hours. The link to this website is: www.sage.ie/pye
*NB-Please ensure you are not importing your new 2015 p2c’s into your 2014 payroll as this will over-write all of your employees tax information and cause a USC rebate.
- Process 2015 Week / Period 1 before the new year starts
If you have weekly or fortnightly payroll, once you have installed the software update, it will be worthwhile considering processing your first period’s payroll for 2015. We know that many of our customers do this so that they can feel confident that all is working as it should and have some peace of mind that thing are under control before they sit down to their Christmas dinner! It is also important to consider how Christmas falls this year – many businesses (and indeed schools) won’t be back to full normal operations until January 5th meaning you could be under pressure to get the payroll processed, signed off and accounted for etc. in time for the first payroll of 2015. Also as the P2C’s have been released mid-December by the revenue this year, once you have imported this into your new year you can be secure in the knowledge that everyone has been allocated their correct tax information! Remember – you can process your payroll date as a 2015 date but still put through your bank file date/emt date as the 30/31st Dec 2014 to ensure your employees get paid on time.
- P35 Submission Deadline is 15th February
As an employer you must submit your P35 year-end submission by 15th February 2015 to Revenue. Our advice is to get this completed asap, there is no benefit to leaving this to the last minute, there are fines of up to €4000 for non-submission and remember, we are here to support through this period. Our team are working extended hours and we have additional highly skilled support technicians available over the period from December to February to provide any assistance you may need in the year end period.
